To celebrate their 10th anniversary, NCT 127 returns with their seventh album ‘Blingy’. The album features a total of 9 tracks, including the title track ‚Blingy’. The participating members are Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun and Haechan. Doyoung and Jungwoo could not participate due to their mandatory military service.
One element that stands out from the concept of this album is the color green/neon green, which has always been an important color for NCT. An example is the Neobong (Lightstick of their fans). In this album, they present themselves just as we all know them: confident, eye-catching, and strong at the same time.
The title track ‘Blingy’ features aggressive production, powerful synthesizers, and a distinctive beat. It has this flashy, luxurious vibe. That suits NCT 127 perfectly, since they’ve released this kind of song many times before, for example Simon Says. The production of ‘Blingy’ and ’Simon Says have a dark and heavy sound, with strong bass and electronic sounds.
This song is perfect for a concert atmosphere where fans can jump and sing along to the song, which would create a perfect stage and atmosphere in the concert. Personally, I think their title track is a real earworm that gets directly into your head. The part distribution of the song suits their assigned members and shows their vocal and rap strengths.
Many fans on Reddit have been saying that this album really sounds like NCT 127. They have been comparing the overall sound to the Neo Zone era and said it feels like a return to the groups more experimental, ‘Neo‘ identity. The variety across the tracklist has also been praised. The B-side song that fans have also been liking is ‘Legacy’
Overall, the album clearly shows who NCT 127 really is and who they’ve always been. Their sound and vibe come through, once again highlighting where their focus and brand lies and what makes their music instantly recognizable.
Personally, I really like the songs ‘Blingy’ and ‘Legacy’; they give off a dark vibe that I personally find very catchy in songs and that quickly draws me in.
I would recommend this album to people that are really into hip-hop and enjoy listening to this genre and vibe.
