Summer is coming, new music is releasing and you are searching for the perfect band to match that vibe. We sat down with SERO to get the insight of an upcoming band in South Korea. This exclusive interview will draw you into the sound of SERO.

TCC Gabi: The name of your band is very interesting, what was the thought process behind it?

SERO: We formed the team when we were university students. Around that time, a zebra named “Sero” escaped from the zoo at the Children’s Grand Park, which was right in front of our campus. Sero’s escape was a bittersweet, “funny yet sad” event in Korean society back then, and it got a huge amount of media coverage. Since it happened right outside our school and we happened to be brainstorming band names at the exact same moment, we decided to name ourselves SERO.

TCC Gabi: What keeps you guys so close during practice?

SERO: Mutual respect and mutual consideration. Every member of our band lives their life like they have 48 hours in a day, so we are all incredibly busy. When we gather for practice, we are often exhausted from our individual schedules, which could easily lead to friction. That is why we make a conscious effort to respect and accommodate each other’s time and energy. That mutual care is what keeps us so close.

TCC Gabi: When you are on stage performing, what is the one thing you think about to not become nervous?

SERO: We just tell ourselves: “Let’s tear this stage apart!”

TCC Gabi: How does your song writing process usually plan out in the recording room?

SERO: We aren’t entirely sure if you mean the overall production workflow or the process for individual instruments, but to give you an example: when we record the drums, all the members go into the recording room together to direct the overall vibe. Since we aren’t all classical or traditional audio majors, our directing process relies heavily on non-verbal expressions like shouting “Pa-ba-ba-bak!” to describe a drum fill. It’s honestly hilarious to watch.

TCC Gabi: You have a great fan base, what is one thing you find special about your fans? And do you have a name for them?

SERO: Our fans’ support truly builds our confidence—which is the most important thing to us. Just because we make music, they give us so much generous love, thoughtful gifts, and delicious food. Everything they do brings us immense joy, and we always feel so incredibly grateful for their overflowing support. As for a fandom name, we don’t have an official one yet, but if we had to pick one right now… since we are named after Sero the zebra, how about…a……. “The Zookeepers” (사육사들)?

TCC Gabi: What is your main inspiration for your biggest moments as a band?

SERO: Seeing the audience genuinely enjoying the music with us during our shows is our greatest joy. Wanting to give back and repay that amazing energy is what mainly inspires us. It drives us to constantly brainstorm and create all kinds of unique, fun, and exciting performances.

TCC Gabi: Which member is most likely to forget a lyric whilst performing?

To be honest, the vocals, guitar, and bass members all make plenty of mistakes with lyrics and chords on stage (haha). Our drummer is usually the one who makes the fewest mistakes, but even he has those occasional days where his system just completely glitches out!
